Some I’ve even heard declaring it to be a company that produces unreliable guns that shouldn’t be carried. Well it’s obvious that I do carry one everyday because I put both those words in the title.

My Keltec journey began a many years ago when I purchased my first pistol. It was a semi compact all steel frame and slide handgun with a 16+1 magazine and shot like there was no tomorrow. I loved that pistol, and still do. Unfortunately someone stole it. Moral of that story is that Tacoma is the worst place in the universe, but that is a blog post for another time.

Having gone from one pistol to minus one pistol I was looking for something completely different. My first pistol was excellent but weighed 800lb. Obviously I’m slightly dramatizing the weight. Slightly. I decided that since I wanted to carry everyday and was on a budget I needed something light and appropriatly priced.

Back when I was searching for the ultimate light weight concealment gun the market was just starting to mature with actually concealable single stack 9mm pistols. Today your choices are nearly unlimited. Back then not so much.

I settled on the PF-9 because the PF-11 is ugly. Oh and heavier. I went with the hard chrome version because I sweat a lot and live in a wet State. Fully loaded 7+1 with 115gr fmj it weighs oz. Fully loaded 7+1 with gr Polycase ARX it weighs oz.

I conceal the PF-9 in a very nice leather inside the waistband holster. With the light weight and small size I am able to carry nearly everyday throughout the whole year in Washington State. I will be the first to point out that super compact guns are not “fun” to shoot and don’t really qualify as plinking guns. However the Keltec will still place all rounds down range where they are wanted.

I have personally performed a fluff and buff on the barrel ramp and inside the firing pin chanel. The only time I have ever had issues with my Keltec is at the range when I have failed to keep it clean. I have adopted a regular routine of dissembling it and cleaning all the crud out that one acquires during daily carry. If you want to avoid this just don’t take your guns out of the box.
