Thompson Center Encore Pro Hunter

If you have learned anything about me from previous posts it is most likely the fact I’m a tightwad. How then, might you ask, did I come by a TC Encore? I stole it of course.

All joking aside, the TC is outfitted with their 24 inch camo 12 guage barrel (3 inch shells), a turkey choke, and a black pro hunter buttstock. At some point I hope to swap out to the matching camo stock, but I haven’t had a chance to steal one of those yet.

It is single action hammer fired with a break barrel. Very deadly over short distances. The trigger is crisp and smooth with just enough weight for a nice clean shot.

I have fired this shotgun five times. Three times were for a shot pattern on different shells and two were aimed at turkey. At 53 yards the 24 inch barrel is ineffective. Don’t ask how I know. At 15 yards it will drop a turkey in its tracks. You can ask about that one.

I take the TC with me because it is comparatively light next to my pump shotgun, and I like to carry my long arm instead of sling it. Just a preference of mine. It also fits better on a motorcycle, when I take that instead of a car. I goes bang every time and the factory three dot fiber optic sights are bright and dead on.

I plan to grab a .308 barrel eventually and get some multi purpose use from this very fine firearm.

UPDATE Feb 2019: I’ve added a reflex red dot to the TC for the upcoming Spring turkey season. I’m excited to see what it can do. If it performs well it will get it’s own review post. If not, I shall never speak to it again.
